Diplomats Down Elizabethtown 3-0 In Volleyball

LANCASTER, PA -- Kristen Kowalski (Jr., York, PA/Central York) hammered 15 kills and Heidi Goedicke (Jr., Spring Church, PA/Elderton) added 13, as the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats defeated Elizabethtown 3-0 in non-conference volleyball action on Wednesday evening. The match would start on a high note for F&M as Goedicke dropped a service ace in front of the Bluejays backline for a 1-0 lead. It would be all Diplomats the rest of the way as the team never trailed in any of the three games on their way to the 30-23, 30-23, 30-22 victory. Emily Green (Sr., Woodstock, CT/Woodstock), who became the only active player to be ranked in the top 10 for kills, digs, service aces, blocks and assists by tallying 25 digs in three matches this weekend, would add to her career totals by registering 10 digs, 2 solo blocks and 10 kills. For her career, she has tallied 559 kills, 819 digs and 108 blocks. Liz Earll (Fr., New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) notched 3 solo blocks, five kills and chipped in two service aces. Goedicke and Karis Conner (Sr., Reading, PA/Holy Name) each punched in a pair of aces as the Diplomats ran away to an early lead on their way to the victory. Elizabethtown's Dawn Johns led her team with 11 kills, while setter Tess Romiti racked up 27 assists. Franklin & Marshall College will next be in action on September 14-15 at the Emory University Invitational Tournament in Atlanta, Georgia. The team will return home to the Mayser Center on the 19th to open the Centennial Conference season versus Dickinson College at 7:00 p.m. The CC season will continue on the 21st as the Diplomats travel to Haverford College for a 4:30 tri-match with Washington College.
