Diplomats Fall to Brockport, Down York at Juniata Volleyball Tournament

HUNTINGDON, PA -- Freshman Liz Earll (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) finished with 39 digs in seven games as the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats women's volleyball team split a pair of games in the opening round of the 2001 Juniata College Tournament. Versus Brockport, the Diplomats would fall 3-1 by scores of 20-30, 19-30, 30-19 and 18-30. In the match, Earll would register 14 digs, while Maureen Lafferty (So., Collegeville, PA/Villa Maria) and Kristen Kowalski (Jr., York, PA/Central York) each had 13 kills to lead the team. Against York College of Pennsylvania, Earll would dominate the match recording 25 digs, seven service aces and three kills to lead her team to a 30-25, 30-24, 33-31 victory. Senior Emily Green (Woodstock, CT/Woodstock) knocked down 7 kills, while Heidi Goedicke (Jr., Spring Church, PA/Elderton) scored 15 kills as the Diplomats built an early lead and never looked back on their way to their ninth win of the season. Setter Jen Grue (So., Canton, PA/Canton) finished the day with 59 assists, including 31 versus York. Franklin & Marshall (9-5, 3-1 CC) will continue at Juniata tomorrow in the second day of the tournament with matches versus Western Maryland (1:00 p.m.) and Rochester Institute of Technology (5:00 p.m.) slated before returning home to Lancaster for a September 3 match versus Swarthmore College.
