Gettysburg Eliminates F&M from Centennial Playoff Berth with 3-1 Win

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College tallied 9 blocks in a 30-16 first game victory, but Gettysburg College would come back to down the Diplomats 3-1 to eliminate F&M from advancing to the Centennial Conference Volleyball Playoff Tournament. F&M (19-9, 7-3 Centennial) would get the better of the match in the early going as senior Emily Green (Woodstock, CT/Woodstock) tallied five blocks, including four in the first game to lead F&M. Playing in her last regular season home match, Green registered 12 kills and three service aces on offense, and played solid defense digging 22 balls. However, Gettysburg would rally in games two through four by scores of 30-27, 30-28, 30-27 to take the match and end F&M's Centennial Conference season as the Diplomats could muster only four more blocks in the match. Rose Hartmann (Jr., Warminster, PA/William Tennent) notched six kills, five digs and 3 blocks in the effort for the two-time defending Conference champions. Setter Jen Grue (So., Canton, PA/Canton) recorded 47 assists, and outside hitter Heidi Goedicke (Jr., Spring Church, PA/Elderton) swatted 16 kills as F&M now trails in the all-time series 9-3. F&M and Gettysburg, the two perennial powers in Centennial volleyball, entered the match tied at 7-2 in the Conference standings. The Diplomats will now wait for the announcement of the Eastern College Athletic Conference volleyball field on Monday, November 5. They will next be in action on October 26-27 at the Elizabethtown College Halloween Tournament to conclude the regular season.
