Earll & Grue Lead F&M 3-1 Over Western Maryland in Volleyball

WESTMINSTER, MD – F&M's Jen Grue (So., Canton, PA/Canton) set up 48 assists and Liz Earll (Fr., New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) served eight service aces as the Franklin & Marshall women's volleyball team knocked off Western Maryland College 3-1 in Centennial Conference action. The Diplomats would sweep through the match 30-21, 28-30, 30-20, 30-12 without facing much of a challenge as outside hitters Kristen Kowalski (Jr., York, PA/Central York) and Heidi Goedicke (Jr, Spring Church, PA/Elderton) knocked down 16 and 11 kills, respectively. Emily Green (Sr., Woodstock, CT/Woodstock) punched in 12 kills and netted three blocks as the Diplomats (19-7, 7-1 CC) moved within one win of their record setting sixth straight 20 win season. Historically, F&M's longest string of 20 win seasons is five set from 1990-1994 and again from 1996-2000. In 1995, the Diplomats recorded an 18-14 record to snap the string. With tonight's win F&M secured playoff berths for Gettysburg (8-1 CC), Haverford (7-2 CC) and Muhlenberg (7-2 CC) F&M will return to the court on Saturday in Baltimore, Maryland against Johns Hopkins University in another vital Centennial Conference match. With a win against the Blue Jays, F&M can secure themselves a berth in the Conference playoffs.
