LANCASTER, PA -- The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) has announced that Franklin & Marshall College opposite side hitter Emily Green (Sr., Woodstock, CT/Woodstock Academy) has been named to the 2001 AVCA Middle Atlantic Region Team and the Verizon Academic All-District II College Division Volleyball first Team. The AVCA All-Region team is selected by a panel of Division III head coaches based upon each player's statistics and overall play. The Middle-Atlantic Region is one of six sections in the country that selects 12 players who are then eligible for All-American standing. A 2001 team captain and a second team selection to the All-Centennial Conference team, Green registered 304 kills, 455 digs and 75 service aces as the Diplomats finished the year 22-11. The all-time leader in F&M history with 261 service aces, Green is the only active player and just the second player in F&M history to rank among the career top 10 at the College in kills (834, 8th), digs (1239, 6th), blocks (167, 6th) and assists (244, 6th). She would reset the record books in 2001 by tallying a record seven service aces in a game against Bryn Mawr College, as F&M broke the team mark for most aces in a three game match with 25. She is joined on the AVCA team by three players from the Centennial Conference as Gettysburg setter Lauren Boyd, Haverford outside hitter Jennifer Constantino and Western Maryland outside hitter Kate Wall were also named to the squad. In addition, Green's appointment to the Verizon Academic All-District II first team marks the second straight year that she has been honored by the organization. The Verizon Academic All-District II first team is voted on by Sports Information Directors at all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-America program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve.
