Department of Athletics Announces Class of 2006 Volleyball Recruits

LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall College Athletic Department announced today the following list of recruits have submitted their deposit and declared their intention of joining the F&M women's volleyball team in the fall: Name Position Hometown/High School Kayleen Bailey Outside Hitter Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame Sara Collier Middle Blocker Manchester, PA/Northeastern Meghan Godorov Outside Hitter/Libero Orefield, PA/Parkland Katherine Litras Setter/Opposite Greenlawn, NY/John Glenn Caitlin Pickhaver Outside Hitter Drexel Hill, PA/Merion Mercy Jackie Skibbie Setter Darby, PA/Merion Mercy Becca Zeigler Outside Hitter Manchester, PA/Northeastern Two players to watch of the incoming recruits are Skibbie and Pickhaver, as the pair combined to lead Merion Mercy to the PIAA "AA" State Championship in 2001 with a perfect 60-0 record. A 5'-7" setter, Skibbie was named to the All-District and All-Main Line first team, in addition to earning Second Team All-State honors. Pickhaver, a 5'-9" outside hitter, earned All-District honors last year as Merion Mercy's championship marked the second straight year that the team advanced to the State Finals. Another pair of teammates could have an immediate impact on the Diplomats as Zeigler and Collier rejoin in Lancaster. A 5'-6' outside hitter, Zeigler was named to the All-District team her junior year as she combined with 5'-8" middle blocker Collier to lead Northeastern to the second round of the district playoffs. In addition, Collier led her division in blocks to earn All-District honors as a senior. Other players to watch include Litras and Bailey. A 5'-8" setter/opposite side hitter, Litras was voted Female Athlete of the Year at John Glenn High School to cap a season in which she was named to the All-County and All-State squads. A graduate of the Institute of Notre Dame, Bailey started on the varsity squad for two seasons at outside hitter. At libero, 5'-5" Godorov led Parkland High School to fourth place in District XI to earn honors as a Lehigh Valley All-Star, Second team All-District and Honorable Mention All-State player. Franklin & Marshall College concluded the 2001 volleyball season 22-11, fifth in the Centennial Conference with a 7-3 record, while advancing to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship tournament. Historically, F&M's appearance in the ECAC Tournament marked the sixth straight season that the Diplomats advanced to the post-season as the 1993, 1994, 1999 and 2000 Centennial Conference Champions appeared in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III playoffs in 1994, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999 and 2000.
