Diplomats Split Opening Matches at 2002 Radison/Colorado College Volleyball Invitational

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Setter Jackie Skibbie (Fr., Darby, PA/Merion Mercy) recorded 43 assists in four games as the Franklin & Marshall College women's volleyball team split their first two matches at the 2002 Radison/Colorado College Invitational.

Versus Lewis & Clark University in the opening match, Skibbie tallied 24 assists, 10 digs and three kills on four attempts as the Diplomats swept the match 3-0 (30-22, 30-28, 30-24).

Offensively, outside hitters Kristen Kowalski (Sr., York, PA/Central York) and Heidi Goedicke (Sr., Spring Church, PA/Elderton) registered 10 kills each to lead the team, while middle blocker Rose Hartmann (Sr., Warminster, PA/William Tenent) served five aces, recorded four blocks and knocked down seven kills as the Diplomats finished with a .231 attack percentage for the game (41 kills, 16 errors, 108 total attempts).

Against Linfield College, Goedicke notched 13 kills and 13 digs to pace the team as Franklin & Marshall fell 3-0 (30-14, 30-13, 30-27).

For Linfield, Andrea Beck recorded 10 kills to lead her team. Overall, F&M committed 30 attack errors in the match on 126 attempts, while Linfield made 11 errors on 70 attempts to pick up the victory.

Through one day of competition, F&M stands third in the team rankings behind Linfield and Colorado College (2-0). Howard Payne University and Lewis & Clark (0-2) round out the standings in the five-team tournament.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on September 7 versus Howard Payne (10 a.m.) and Colorado (noon) before returning home to Lancaster to prepare for a September 11 home match versus Lebanon Valley College. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in the Mayser Center.
