LANCASTER, PA - The Franklin & Marshall College men's & women's soccer and volleyball teams have secured playoff berths in the upcoming Centennial Conference playoffs. In men's soccer, the berth marks the first in the 10-year history of the Centennial Conference. The team earned the post-season championship opportunity on Saturday as Steve Schneider (Jr., Elverson, PA/ Twin Valley) used a Forrest Watson (Jr., Columbia, MD/Wilde Lake) pass to score the game winning goal with a minute left in double overtime to give the Diplomats a 2-1 victory at #3 nationally ranked Gettysburg College. Trailing 1-0, F&M tied the game at the 85:57 mark when Wallace Eisenhauer (So., New Castle, PA/ Wilmington Christian) found Gerald Stoltzfoos (Jr., Willow Street, PA/ Lancaster Mennonite) in front of the net for a 1-1 tie.
The victory improves F&M to 7-8 overall, 6-1 in the Centennial
Conference as the Diplomats will face back-to-back playoff
contenders to conclude the regular season. On October 30,
F&M will host Muhlenberg at 2:30 p.m. before facing Johns
Hopkins University on November 2 at Baker Campus.
If the Diplomats pick up wins in both contests, F&M will host the Centennial Conference Playoffs on November 9 at Baker Campus. Statistically, Schneider leads the team in scoring with four goals for eight points, while goaltender Chris Milano (Sr., Fairfield, NJ/West Essex) holds a 1.32 goals against and .780 save percentage. The women's soccer team is experiencing a record breaking season as the Diplomats have jumped out to a 13-1-1 record, 7-0-1 in Centennial Conference play to clinch a spot in the four team playoffs. To date, midfielder Heather Rice (Sr., Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) leads the team in scoring with eight goals and eight assists for 22 points. A member of the Israel National Soccer Team, Rice is the career assists record holder in both Centennial Conference and Franklin & Marshall College women's soccer history as she has recorded 33 to date. The women's soccer team will conclude the regular season in a pair of road night games. On November 2, F&M will travel to Baltimore, Maryland to play Johns Hopkins (11-5-1, 6-2 CC) before finishing the regular season on November 4 at Muhlenberg College (10-6, 7-1 CC). If the Diplomats pick up wins in both contests, F&M will host the Centennial Conference Playoffs on November 9 at Baker Campus. In volleyball, the Diplomats (24-6, 9-0 CC) control also control their own destiny as F&M will travel to Gettysburg College (18-12, 6-1 CC) on October 30 in a match which will decide home court advantage for the CC Playoffs scheduled for November 9.
For F&M, Kristen Kowalski (Sr., York, PA/Central York) leads
the team in kills with 365, while Rose Hartmann (Sr., Warminster,
PA/William Tennent) ranks first in service aces (77) and blocks
(64).
