Volleyball Finishes Third at University of Scranton Tournament

SCRANTON, PA - Franklin & Marshall College finished 3-1 to place third at the University of Scranton Volleyball Invitational.
In pool play, the Diplomats rolled over the City College of New York and Marywood University to advance to the championship bracket.

Versus CCNY, middle blocker Elizabeth Earll (Jr., New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) tallied 20 kills and libero Meghan Godorov (So., Orefield, PA/Parkland) registered 44 digs as the Diplomats earned a 3-1 victory (26-30, 30-18, 30-24, 30-27). Following a loss in the first game, Franklin & Marshall rallied behind the performances of outside hitter Maureen Lafferty (Sr., Collegeville, PA/Villa Maria) and setter Jenn Grue (Sr., Canton, PA/Canton) who knocked down 10 kills and dished off 64 assists, respectively.

The quartet continued their ways versus Marywood as F&M coasted to a 3-0 win (30-15, 30-21, 30-23) behind 17 digs and eight kills by Lafferty. Earll added 12 kills, Grue passed for 31 assists and Godorov put up a match high 22 digs as the Diplomats claimed their division and advanced to a championship bracket match versus Cortland State.

However, the Dragons handled the Diplomats 3-0 (30-28, 30-11, 30-24) as Franklin & Marshall closed out the tournament with a 3-0 victory (30-22, 30-18, 30-19) over Wilkes in the third place match.

For her performance, Lafferty earned All-Tournament team honors as the accolade marked her second All-Tournament nod this year following recognition at the season-opening F&M Scramble.

Franklin & Marshall (5-3, 0-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on September 16 at Bryn Mawr College to open Centennial Conference play. Opening serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
