Gettysburg Bullets Snipe Diplomats 3-1 in Volleyball

LANCASTER, PA - Maureen Lafferty (Sr., Collegeville, PA/Villa Maria) finished with 13 kills, 21 digs and three service aces, but Gettysburg College rallied from a one game deficit to capture a 3-1 victory over Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference volleyball.

The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead downing the Bullets 30-23 in the opening game. However, Gettysburg responded to tie the match in game two (30-18) before capturing games three (30-22) and four (30-27) to 25-5, 9-0 in Centennial Conference play.

For Franklin & Marshall (14-11, 7-3 CC), Rebecca Zeigler (So., Manchester, PA/Northeastern) finished with 12 kills and 14 digs, while Tara Clarke (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Hereford) chipped in 12 kills and two block assists in the effort.

At libero, Meghan Godorov (So., Orefield, PA/Parkland) added 24 digs as the Diplomats clinched the #3 seed in the Centennial Conference playoffs.

Gettysburg, which clinched the #1 seed, will face #4 Haverford, while #2 Johns Hopkins will meet #3 F&M next Saturday in Gettysburg in the semifinals of the Conference Championship Tournament.

During the season, Hopkins defeated the Diplomats 3-0 in Baltimore, while Gettysburg leads Haverford 2-0 in a match that was suspended due to a medical emergency in the stands. In the third game, Gettysburg led 28-20 before the officials suspended the match.

Franklin & Marshall will return to action on November 1 at the Messiah College Tournament.
