Diplomats Fall to Hopkins, Defeat McDaniel in Centennial Conference Volleyball Action

BALTIMORE, MD - Franklin & Marshall College went 1-1 as the Diplomats fell to Johns Hopkins University 3-0 and defeated McDaniel 3-2 in Centennial Conference volleyball action.

The Blue Jays rolled to a 3-0 (30-21, 30-26, 32-30) victory over Franklin & Marshall as outside hitter Stephanie Kaliades recorded kills, while setter Betsy Baydala led the Blue Jays with 37 assists.

For the Diplomats, Elizabeth Earll (Jr., New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) and Maureen Lafferty (Sr., Collegeville, PA/Villa Maria) knocked down 13 and 10 kills, respectively, while libero Meghan Godorov (So., Orefield, PA/Parkland) finished with 27 digs.

Against McDaniel, the Green Terror rallied from a 2-1 deficit to hold on for a 30-28 victory in game four to force a decisive game five against Franklin & Marshall College. In the fifth game, the Diplomats dominated McDaniel for a 15-6 win as Earll registered seven kills in the game to finish with 18 in the match as the Diplomats improved to 10-9, 3-1 in Centennial Conference play with a 3-2 (29-31, 30-25, 30-27, 28-30, 15-6) win.

Overall, Lafferty finished with 18 kills and 32 digs, while Earll added four solo blocks and two block assists and Godorov chipped in 39 digs. Defensively, Tara Clarke (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Hereford) tallied four solo blocks to key the Diplomats to the win.

Franklin & Marshall College will return to action on October 18 in Chestertown, Maryland at Washington College versus Swarthmore.
