LANCASTER, PA -- Amy Abernathy (So., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) scored 21 points and pulled down a game high 19 rebounds for her second double-double in as many days as the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats claimed the 13th Annual Tip-Off Tournament title in the Mayser Center with a 72-69 defeat of Lycoming College.

The 6-0 center dominated under both baskets in the first half knocking down seven of 11 shots for 15 points, corralling 10 rebounds, including six offensive boards leading to put-backs, and registering five blocked shots as the Diplomats held a 36-38 advantage at the half.

Overall, she would tally 10 offensive boards and six blocks in 25 minutes before fouling out in the closing minutes of the contest.

For her performance, Abernathy would be awarded the Tournament's Most Valuable Player award by averaging 22 points, 17 rebounds and six blocked shots per game as the Diplomats knocked off Waynesburg College 63-50 in the opening round on Saturday.

All-American guard Amy Kreitz (Sr., Allentown, PA/Salisbury) tallied 20 points, including 15 in the second half on six of 19 shooting, as the Diplomats held a 71-60 lead with 20 seconds left on the game clock.

Lycoming would attempt to tie the game as Katie Santo launched a field goal attempt, but Jamie Drahos (Jr., Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) wrestled the ball away from a Lady Warrior player for the defensive rebound and a quick pass to Lauren Howanski (Sr., Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) who was fouled with four seconds left on the game clock.

Howanski would drain one of two shots as the Diplomats improved to 2-0 on the year.

Overall, Drahos would finish with three points and seven rebounds, while Howanski contributed 14 points, including six of eight from the free throw line, seven rebounds and a game high 8 assists.

Abernathy was joined on the All-Tournament team by Kreitz and Lycoming's Lyndy LeVan who drained 10 of 16 shots for a game high 22 points and secured 11 rebounds in 30 minutes.

In the consolation game, Waynesburg University built a 20 point lead at the half and never looked back as the Yellow Jackets coasted past Rosemont College 78-42.

Waynesburg was led by Kyana Bradley who connected for 12 points and nine rebounds in 22 minutes as the Yellow Jackets evened their record at 1-1 on the year following an opening round loss to F&M.

Rosemont (0-2) struggled in the first half by draining only four of 21 field goal attempts and turning the ball over 19 times to dig a hole from which it could not dig it in the second half. Megan Buchanan led the Ramblers with 13 points off three field goals on 13 attempts, including two of three from beyond the three-point line.

Due to their extraordinary performances, both Bradley and Buchanan were named to the All-Tournament team as each team was guaranteed one spot.

Franklin & Marshall will remain at home in the Mayser Center for their next three games as they will square-off with Bryn Mawr College to open the 2001-02 Centennial Conference season on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m., before hosting Gwynedd Mercy College at 7:00 p.m. on November 26.

The Diplomats will conclude a five game homestand on November 28 versus #1 nationally ranked Messiah College at 6:00 p.m. in Lancaster. Admission is free.
