WESTMINSTER, MD-- Franklin & Marshall guard Lauren Howanski (Sr., Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) scored 17 points off a six-of-nine shooting performance to move within nine points of becoming the 10th player in F&M history to record 1,000 career points, but Western Maryland would get the better of the game as they defeated F&M 82-69 in Centennial Conference play. Howanski, who now has 991 career points, hit three-of-five three-point attempts and two-of-two at the free throw line to bring her needed total to reach 1,000 into single digits. Amy Abernathy (So., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Through seven games, she has recorded double-doubles against Waynesburg (23 points, 15 rebounds), Lycoming (21 points, 19 rebounds), Gwynedd Mercy (16 points, 13 rebounds) and Western Maryland College. The 6-0 center would barely miss becoming the first women's player in the history of the College to record a triple-double as she finished with seven blocked shots in 32 minutes of play. The high scorer for the Diplomats was Amy Kreitz (Sr., Allentown, PA/Salisbury) who knocked down seven-of-20 attempts, including one-of-seven from three-point range, and seven-of-nine foul shots for 22 points. The tally would be enough to move Kreitz a rung up the all-time scorer's list at F&M as she surpassed Michele Fisher '89 (1,250) for seventh in career scoring with 1,254 points. She has a chance to move into the top six all-time by Christmas break in the Diplomats' next game by surpassing Wendy Stabolepszy '79 who scored 1,270 points. Further, she is only 40 points away from eclipsing Tina Breithaupt '94, the fifth highest scorer in Diplomats women's basketball history who tallied 1,293 points in four seasons. Following a 41-41 tie at halftime, Western Maryland would open a quick lead on the Diplomats and never look back behind a game high 23 points from Jen Piccolomini. Overall, Piccolomini hit 10-of-20 shots and pulled down nine rebounds to lead her team. Kelly Cramp chipped in 18, and the duo of Stephanie McPherson and Brooke Weimer scored 10 apiece as the Green Terror pulled out the 13-point victory. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on December 8 at Neumann College. Opening tip-off is set for 2:00 p.m.
