COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Guard Amy Kreitz (Sr., Allentown, PA/Salisbury) converted nine of 18 shots from the field for her second 25 point performance of the week as the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats defeated Ursinus College 68-53 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action. Kreitz, who entered the game following performances of 25 and 22 points versus Drew and Elizabethtown College earlier in the week, respectively, helped her team build a nine point lead just 4:22 into game by draining back-to-back three pointers as F&M coasted to the victory. Overall, Kreitz knocked down six-of-12 shots for 16 points in 17 minutes during the first half as the Diplomats carried a 38-29 lead into intermission. From the field, Kreitz drained three-of-four from beyond the three-point arc and four of five at the free-throw line as F&M connected on a season high seven of 11 three point attempts, including five of eight in the first half. Kreitz and co-captain Lauren Howanski (Sr., Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) combined to connect on six of seven three-point attempts. Ursinus, which led for the first 1:08 of the game off a pair of Erica Maurer free-throws, would be outscored in spurts by the Diplomatic duo as Franklin & Marshall went on a 15-4 run early in the first half capped by pairs of three-pointers by Kreitz and Howanski. With tonight's totals, Howanski and Kreitz are now tied for third place all-time at the College in three-point field goals with 86, 23 off the second place total of Dina White '94 who drained 109 for 337. In addition, both Kreitz and Howanski moved up the all-time scorers' list at the College. Howanski, who converted three of four three-point shots, including a perfect three-of-three in the first half, moved into ninth place all-time at the College in scoring with 1,040 points to displace Aurora Gonzalez '97 (1,034) as the she finished with 14 points off five of nine shooting. Further, Kreitz raised her career total to 1,336 points for fifth place all-time at the College and moving her within 167 points of surpassing the fourth place mark of Laurie Baker '78, who registered 1,502 points. In other performances, center Amy Abernathy (So., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds for her eighth double-double of the season, and the third in the last three games as the Diplomats held a 42 to 34 rebound advantage over Ursinus. Through eleven games, she has previously recorded double-doubles against Waynesburg (23 points, 15 rebounds), Lycoming (21 points, 19 rebounds), Gwynedd Mercy (16 points, 13 rebounds), Western Maryland College (16 points, 15 rebounds), Muhlenberg (16 points, 11 rebounds), Drew (12 points, 12 rebounds) and Elizabethtown (19 points, 20 rebounds). This week, she has tallied 41 points and 44 boards, an average of 13.67 points and 14.67 rebounds per game. The Bears were led by 15 points from Kristin Marino, while Maurer added 13 points and a team high 8 rebounds as Ursinus falls to 4-7, 3-2 in Centennial Conference play. Franklin & Marshall (7-4, 2-2 Centennial Conference) will look for its third Conference win of the season on Saturday as the Diplomats host the Gettysburg College Bullets at 6:00 p.m. in the Mayser Center.
