Kreitz & Abernathy Key F&M Women's Basketball Over Haverford, 74-45

by Sports Information
2/9/02

LANCASTER, PA -- Guard Amy Kreitz (Sr., Allentown, PA/Salisbury) and center Amy Abernathy (So., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) scored a combined 26 points, including 24 in the first half, as the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats used a series of runs to defeat Haverford College, 74-45, for their 10th Centennial Conference victory of the season.

Kreitz scored 16 points off a seven-of-11 performance from the floor, while Abernathy added 10 points and five rebounds, falling short of recording her 15th double-double of the season.

Overall, 12 of the 15 players on the F&M roster would score as the Diplomats built a 47-14 halftime lead and never looked back.

In the first half, Haverford would jump out to a 2-0 lead as Erin McCartney connected on a short jumper 30 seconds into the game. F&M would answer back 1:34 later as Kreitz accepted a pass from Abernathy and drained a jump shot to tie the game and open the floodgates on a 20-0 Diplomats run with lasted until the 10:00 mark of the first half.

In the run, Abernathy would finish with 10 points and two assists as the Diplomats dominated the Fords on both ends of the floor before McCartney fluttered a shot into the basket to begin an 8-0 run which pulled Haverford within 12 points.

But F&M would shut Haverford down the rest of the way outscoring the Fords 27-6 to hold a 33-point lead at halftime.

Lauren Howanski (Sr., Gap, PA/Pequea Valley) and Chrissy Raguckas (Jr., Gouldsboro, PA/North Pocono) added seven points, while Lauren Dodrill (Fr., Timonium, MD/Roland Park) chipped in nine points and a game high seven rebounds in the effort.

F&M, which improves to 17-4, 10-2 in the Centennial Conference, has not lost since a 82-69 defeat at Western Maryland on December 4 as the Diplomats have overcome a 3-4 start to stand two victories shy of claiming the Centennial Conference Western Division title.

Currently, F&M holds a one game lead over Hopkins in the CC West and the Diplomats could earn a playoff spot, the #1 seed and home court advantage throughout the CC playoffs with a win at Dickinson College on February 13.

Game time is set for 6:00 p.m. in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
