LANCASTER, PA -- Lebanon Valley guard/forward Stephanie Tighe scored 17 points and pulled down nine rebounds as the Flying Dutchmen claimed the 15th Annual Tip-Off Tournament in the Mayser Center with an 80-78 defeat of host Franklin & Marshall College. Tighe and the Dutchmen survived a late flurry from the Diplomats as F&M guard Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/The Hun School) drained a three-pointer from the top of the arch to cut the LVC lead to 80-78 with 2.3 seconds left on the game clock. On the ensuing inbound play, LVC was able to run out the clock and pick up the tournament victory before the Diplomats could foul to remain in contention. F&M center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) led her team with 26 points and 12 rebounds for her second double-double in as many games. In the second half, Abernathy dominated the LVC defense connecting on six-of-10 from the floor and seven-of-10 at the free-throw line for nearly one half of her team's 40 second half points. For her performance, Abernathy was named to the All-Tournament team. The honor marks the second straight year she has been honored by the Tip-Off Tournament coaches as she was named Most Valuable Player of the 2001 Tournament. The keys to the game were turnovers and missed freethrows as F&M committed 31 turnovers and shot 14-of-25 from the charity stripe, including 10-of-15 in the second half. For LVC, Crystal Gibbons was four-for-six from the line in the second half as the Dutchmen converted eight-of-11 free throw opportunities. Overall, LVC knocked down 14-of-20 free throws and 33-of-77 from the floor to hold off the Diplomats and improve to 2-0 on the season. Erin Eaby joined Tighe on the All-Tournament team as she scored eight points off two-of-four shooting while converting four-of-six free throw opportunities. In the second half, Eaby drained three-of-four foul shots for the deciding factor in the game. In the consolation game, Delaware Valley College All-Tournament selection Amber Smolinsky shot six-of-four from the floor and added 20 points in 26 minutes as the Aggies routed Trinity College of Washington D.C. 108-44. Leading by double-digits from the game's three-minute mark, the Aggies shot 16-of-35 from the floor and 19-of-20 from the free throw line in the first half to take a 54-26 lead into the locker room at halftime. Overall, Trinity shot just 25.7 percent from the floor in the game, including eight-of-36 in the second half as Delaware Valley pulled away 54-18 down the stretch for the 64-point victory. For Trinity, Bonita Winchester was named to the All-Tournament team for leading her squad with seven points and one assist in 19 minutes of play.
