Abernathy Scores 22 Points as Diplomats Handle Albright, 60-49

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) scored 22 points, pulled down nine rebounds and grabbed six steals to lead the Diplomats to a 60-49 win over Albright College in non-conference women's basketball action. The Diplomats built an early 21-6 lead just 7:30 into the game, but the Lady Lions reeled off a 15-8 run to close the half to cut the Diplomats lead to 29-21 at halftime. In the second half, cut the Diplomats' lead to 36-31as Albright's Brandie Engler converted one-of-two free throws, but F&M used an 8-5 run to build the lead to 44-36 and never look back. Kirsten Richter (Sr., Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) finished with 14 points as 10 different Diplomats scored. Dana Johns (Fr., York, PA/ Eastern York) and Jamie Drahos (Sr., Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) added six points as the Diplomats improve to 4-2, 1-1 in Centennial Conference play. For Albright, Anne Dougherty scored 11 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and blocked five Diplomats' shots to pace the Lions. Laura Tangradi added 12 points and Amy Buzinski chipped in 10 as the Lions fall to 1-5, 0-2 in Middle Atlantic Conference play. Franklin & Marshall College (4-2, 1-1 Centennial Conference) will return to action on December 15 when they play host to Centennial Conference foe McDaniel College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
