BETHLEHEM, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) scored 17 points and pulled down 11 rebounds, but Moravian's Catherine Golden and Kelly McLean combined for 36 points to lead the Greyhounds to an 81-68 victory over the Diplomats in non-conference women's basketball action. The first half was tight for 17 minutes as the Diplomats held a narrow 26-25 lead with 3:08 left to play prior to halftime. However, Kristen Sarnocinski drilled a three-pointer to ignite a 10-0 run as the Greyhounds retrieved the lead for a 35-26 advantage at intermission. Franklin & Marshall tied the game 5:36 into the second half as forward Fran DiFazio (Sr., Clinton, NJ/Pennington School) converted a lay-up to even the score at 41-41. Guard Jamie Drahos (Sr., Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) hit a jumper 41 seconds later to take a 43-41 lead. Golden answered with a trey on the Greyhounds' next possession to retake the lead for good. Following a 15-7 run, Drahos hit a pair of jumpers and two free-throws to cut the lead to 59-56 with 6:43 left to play, but Moravian pulled way over the next two minutes behind six points by Sarah Onkotz to take a 66-56 lead and hang on for the victory. The key to the game was foul-shooting as the Greyhounds committed 16 personal fouls to put the Diplomats on the line 12 times, converting nine. For F&M, the Diplomats committed 27 fouls to allow Moravian to make 32 of 39 free throws, including 29 attempts in the second half. It marked the second straight game F&M has allowed an opponent to shoot 32-of-39 at the line as Gettysburg College accomplished the feat in a 76-70 victory in Gettysburg on January 18. Guard Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) added 14 points, and Drahos dropped in 13 and guard Kirsten Richter (Sr., Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) scored 12 as the Diplomats had four players reach double figures in scoring. Onkotz added 13 points and Sarconcinski chipped in 12 points and six boards as the Greyhounds improve to 12-3 on the season. Franklin & Marshall (9-5, 3-2 Centennial Conference) will return to action on January 25 at Dickinson College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
