Abernathy & Drahos Record Double-Doubles as Diplomats Roll Over St. Norbert 54-47

NASSAU, BAHAMAS - Guard Jamie Drahos (Sr., Ambler, PA/ Wissahickon) scored 10 points and pulled down 14 rebounds, while center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/ American School Paris) added 15 points and 12 rebounds as the Franklin & Marshall College women's basketball team handled St. Norbert College 54-47 in the opening round of the Great Bahamas Goombay Shootout in Nassau. Trailing 31-21 at halftime, the Diplomats rallied in the second half behind 10 points from guard Dana Johns (Fr., York, PA/Central York) as F&M shot 13-of-29 (44.8%) while holding the Green Knights to six-of-28 (21.4%). In the first half, Susan Schramka led the way for St. Norbert with nine points and three rebounds. Overall, St. Norbert shot 50 percent (12-28) from the field in the half to build the 10-point lead at intermission. Telia Midlikowski and Stacy Ritter added 10 points to lead the Green Knights who fall to 2-3, while F&M improves to 6-2. For F&M, Abernathy scored 11 of her 15 points and brought down seven rebounds in the first half. The key to the deficit at halftime was a seven-for-26 shooting performance by the Diplomats while St. Norbert converted 14-of-28 field goal attempts. On the boards, the Diplomats used strong rebounding in the second half to climb back into the game as they held a 28-to-19 advantage, including a 21-15 margin on the defensive glass. Franklin & Marshall College will return to action on Saturday, January 4 versus the winner of Nassau Select and Lakeland College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
