Abernathy Scores 30 as Diplomats Outlast Haverford 80-66 in Women's Basketball

LANCASTER, PA - Center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) recorded her fourteenth double-double of the season as she scored 30 points and brought down a career high 21 rebounds to lead Franklin & Marshall to an 80-66 victory over Haverford College in women's basketball.

Abernathy, who at halftime was named to the Franklin & Marshall College 1993-present all era team, paced the Diplomats in the first half with 12 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots in 11 eleven minutes of play. The Diplomats used a balanced attack as eight of the ten players who entered the game scored in the half as F&M entered the locker room with a 38-35 lead.

The Diplomats opened the lead to 13 in the opening two minutes as Haverford failed to cut the margin to less the rest of the way. Overall, F&M reeled off a 14-2 run to open the half as Abernathy dropped in six of the points.

Guard Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) added 11 points, while forward Fran DiFazio (Sr., Clinton, NJ/Pennington) chipped in seven points . Further, Jessie Adkins (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Friends School), Lauren Dodrill (So., Timonium, MD/Roland Park), Kirsten Richter (Sr., Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) and Kelly Witkowski (Sr., Colts Neck, NJ/Marlboro) registered six points apiece as the Diplomats improved to 12-9, 6-6 in Centennial Conference play.

For Haverford (7-14, 3-9 CC), all five starters reached double figures as Katie Crowley led the Fords with 14 points and seven rebounds, Jaime Rosenberger had 12 points and eight rebounds, Caitie Kimura and Erin McCartney added 11 points, while Claire Scribner had 10 points, four assists and three steals.

Following the game, the F&M Department of Athletics announced the all-time basketball team in program history comprised of: Laurie Baker '78, Wendy Stabolepszy '80, Michele Fisher '89, Catherine Belser '90, Anne Krumrine '90, Carrie Bowen '93, Christina Breithaupt '94, Aurora Gonzalez '97, Lauren Howanski '02 and Amy Kreitz '02

Franklin & Marshall College will return to action on February 19 when they play host to Dickinson College as a part of a men and women's doubleheader. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
