Abernathy Leads F&M Over Elizabethtown 80-70

LANCASTER, PA - Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/ American School-Paris) scored 20 points and brought down 11 rebounds to lead the Diplomats past Elizabethtown 80-70 in women's basketball.

After just getting back a day ago from winning the Goombay Shootut in Nassau, the Diplomats started slowly committing 13 turnovers while shooting 38.7 percent (12-31) from the field in the first half to trail 34-31 at halftime.

In the second half, the Diplomats' found their touch in the second half as they outscored the Blue Jays 49-36.

Abernathy again was the story of the half as she scored 12 points and hauled in seven rebounds along with a 6-for-6 performance from the foul line. Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/ The Hun School) chipped in nine second half points for 13 on the game as the Diplomats improved to 8-2 on the year.

For Elizabethtown, Jessica Hollinshed recorded a team high 16 points and Braun scored 12 while pulling down 11 boards.

Franklin & Marshall College returns to action on January 11 at Messiah College. Game time is set for 2:00.
