Abernathy Ranks Among National Field Goal Percentage Leaders in January 6 NCAA Basketball Statistics

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) ranks 13th in field goal percentage in the latest NCAA statistics for games through January 5. Abernathy, who was shooting 59.3 percent based off 48 field goals on 81 attempts through Sunday, leads F&M in field goal percentage (57.1 percent), points (15.2 ppg), rebounds (10.8 rpg), offensive rebounds (3.9 rpg), defensive rebounds (6.9), steals (2.0 spg), blocks (2.2 bpg) and minutes (25.1 per game). Overall, she ranks second in the Centennial Conference in field goal percentage as Kathy Darling of Johns Hopkins ranks seventh with a 63.4 percentage. The ranking caps a week for Abernathy in which she led the Diplomats to the 2003 Bahamas Goombay Shootout championship. In the title tilt, she scored 14 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and blocked six shots to earn Most Valuable Player honors in a 57-53 win over #25 nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon University. Abernathy dominated under both baskets as she led a Diplomats offense that outscored the Tartans 34-26 in the paint. Further, she shot seven-of-12 from the field and pulled down 10 defensive boards to finish the tournament with 29 points and 26 rebounds in two games versus collegiate competition. Franklin & Marshall College returns to action on January 11 when they travel to Messiah College. Game time is set for 2:00.
