Abernathy Ranks Among Nation's Best in February 24 NCAA Women's Basketball Statistics

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) ranks among the nation's leaders in the latest NCAA statistics for games through February 23.

A 2003 All-Centennial Conference First Team honoree, she ranks 22nd in field goal percentage (55.5) and 30th in blocked shots per game (2.2) as the Diplomats concluded the regular season 13-10, 7-7 in Centennial Conference play.

Abernathy led the Diplomats in points (391), rebounds (247), blocked shots (51), steals (49) and field goal percentage (.555) this season while raising her career numbers to 1,072 points, 811 rebounds, 158 blocks, 128 steals and 78 assists.

In the latest Centennial Conference statistics, she ranks first in offensive rebounds (4.70), second in field goal percentage, third in scoring (17.0), rebounding (10.7), defensive rebounds (6.04) and blocked shots (2.22) and seventh in steals (2.13) per game.

The December 16 and February 18 Centennial Conference Player of the Week, she was named the Most Valuable Player of the Bahamas Goombay Shootout in Nassau for scoring 14 points, grabbing 14 boards and blocking six shots in a 57-53 win over then #25 ranked Carnegie Mellon University.

She was the team leader in scoring 14 times, rebounding 19 times and blocked shots 21 times during the 2002-03 season recording season high totals of 30 points (vs. Haverford, 2/15/03), 21 rebounds (vs. Haverford, 2/15/03) and six blocks (vs. Carnegie Mellon, 1/6/03).

Following a 63-60 loss to Johns Hopkins in the Mayser Center on Saturday which knocked the Diplomats out of playoff contention, Franklin & Marshall and Abernathy will now await word from the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Region Committee on March 3 regarding a bid to the ECAC Playoffs. In 2001 and 2002, F&M received bids to the ECAC Playoffs, including a run to the 2002 title game before falling to DeSales University 79-68 in overtime.
