Abernathy Named February 18 Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week

LANCASTER, PA - Steve Ulrich, Executive Secretary of the Centennial Conference, announced that Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School - Paris) has been named the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period of February 10-16.

In a 2-0 week, Aberanthy averaged 23.5 points and 14.5 rebounds as the Diplomats defeated Gettysburg (77-73) and Haverford (80-66) to improve to 12-9, 6-6 in Centennial Conference play.

She scored 30 points on 12-of-20 shooting and pulled down 21 rebounds with three blocked shots versus Haverford, and added 17 points with eight boards and three blocks versus Gettysburg.

Against Gettysburg, Abernathy laid in a feed from guard Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) with 3:31 left in the second half to become the 12th F&M women's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points.

On the year, Abernathy has recorded a Conference best 14 double-doubles as she ranks among the Centennial Conference best in scoring (16.7 ppg, third), rebounding (10.8 rpg, third) field goal percentage (.560, second), free-throw percentage (.640, 14th), blocked shots (2.24 bpg, second), offensive rebounds (4.67 rpg, first) and defensive rebounds (6.14, third).

The December 16 CC Player of the Week, Abernathy now has 1,032 points, 791 rebounds, 154 blocked shots, 125 steals and 76 assists in her career. She is three points away from surpassing Aurora Gonzalez '98 for 10th in scoring, and eight rebounds shy of passing Monica Stockman '89 for fifth in rebounding at the College.

Further, she is on pace to become the second player in men's and/or women's basketball history at Franklin & Marshall College to achieve a double-grand joining Anne Krumrine '90 (1,811 points & 1,180 rebounds).

In the history of the Centennial Conference, she ranks 13th in rebounding (785) and fifth in blocked shots (157).

Franklin & Marshall will return to action on February 19 at home versus Dickinson College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
