Messiah Outlasts F&M in Women's Basketball, 84-61

GRANTHAM, PA - #17 nationally ranked Messiah College used 24 points from Christina Vouriotis to outlast the Franklin & Marshall College women's basketball team 84-61 in non-conference action.

For F&M, guard Jamie Drahos (Sr., Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) scored 14 points to lead the team. Center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) and guard Kirsten Richter (Sr., Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) each added 12 points as the Diplomats fall to 8-3 on the year.

On the day the Diplomats shot 33.3% (19-of-57) from the field and 79.2% (19-of-24) from the line, while Messiah converted 50% (32-of-64) and 75.0% (18-of-24) at the line.

The key to the game was the play of the Messiah starters as the Falcons' five tallied 61 points, including 33 in the first half.

In the first half, Vouriotis converted on four-of-six from the field and pulled down seven rebounds as the Falcons carried a 40-30 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Overall, Messiah's Amie Kretzing scored 13, Kristin Sassaman added 14, Jess Unick chipped in six and Heidi Marks dropped in 10 to compliment Vouriotis in the lineup.

The score marked the most points allowed by F&M this year.

Franklin & Marshall College (8-3, 2-1 Centennial Conference) will return to action on January 16 when they play host to Ursinus College. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
