Double AA: Abernathy & Adkins Power F&M Past Ursinus 76-55

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Jr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) and forward Jessie Adkins (Sr., Baltimore, MD/Friends School) scored 12 points to lead the Diplomats to a 76-55 win over Ursinus College in Centennial Conference women's basketball action.

Overall, Abernathy made six-of-14 and Adkins drained six-of-10 as the Diplomats shot 32-of-81 from the floor, including six-of-20 from three-point range, to improve to 9-3, 3-1 in the Centennial Conference.

The game was all F&M from the opening tip as the Diplomats built a 6-0 lead and Ursinus never closed to within three points until the closing horn.

Leading 39-36 at halftime, F&M opened the second half on a 17-5 run to push the lead to 56-41 and seal the game.

The key to the game was rebounding as the Diplomats pulled down a season high 61 rebounds, including 26 offensive boards, to hold a 27 board advantage over the Bears who pulled down 34 rebounds.

Abernathy registered a game high seven offensive rebounds and 12 overall boards to register her seventh double double of the 2002-03 season.

Kirsten Richter (Sr., Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) added six rebounds and 10 points and Courtney Tierney (Jr., Princeton, NJ/The Hun School) shot five-of-12 for 13 points in 18 minutes.

Center Lauren Dodrill (So., Timonium, MD/Roland Park) dropped in six points and corralled eight rebounds, while Jamie Drahos (Sr., Ambler, PA/Wissahickon) tallied six points and six rebounds.

Alison Walker led Ursinus with 12 points, Bridget Hussy chipped in 11 and Megan added nine points and nine rebounds as the Bears fall to 4-9, 2-2 in Centennial Conference play.

Franklin & Marshall will return to action on January 18 at Gettysburg College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
