LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College Director of Athletics & Recreation Dr. Robert Bunnell has announced the appointment of Melissa Reiss as an assistant women's basketball coach. The head women's field hockey coach at the College, she joined the F&M staff as an assistant field hockey coach prior to the 1996 season and was named head coach in 1999. Under Reiss, the Diplomats have demonstrated steady advancement in the Centennial Conference rankings. The program's record improved from 3-6 in 1999 to 7-2 in 2001, earning them a berth in the Centennial Conference playoffs for the first time. A native of Lancaster and a 1992 graduate of Penn Manor High School, she graduated from Lebanon Valley College in 1996 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. At LVC, Reiss was a captain and four-year starter for the field hockey team playing an integral role as the Dutchwomen won one Middle Atlantic Conference championship, finished second once and advanced to the NCAA Division III championship tournament three times. A dean's list student while at Lebanon Valley, she was named to the MAC and College Field Hockey Coaches Association All-Academic teams. She will assist head coach Beth Elbon as the Diplomats concluded the 2002-03 season with a 13-10 record, 7-7 in Centennial Conference play.
