LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) and point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) rank among the national leaders in the latest NCAA Division III women's basketball statistics for games through January 18. A 2004 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America selection, Abernathy ranks second in the nation in rebounding with 14. 8 boards per game, 1.1 boards behind national leader Jacclyn Rock of Staten Island (15.9 rpg). In addition, she ranks fifth in blocked shots per game with 4.0, 1.9 off the pace of national leader Karin Schaller of Blufton (5.9 bpg). A 2004 D3hoops.com preseason All-America selection, she now has 1,257 points, 989 rebounds and 206 blocks as she is on pace to join Anne Krumrine '90 and Tina Breithaupt '94 as the only players in program history to finish with 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their careers. In the history of the program, she is third in blocked shots, ninth in scoring and third in rebounding as she could challenge Krumrine's first place mark in rebounding (1,180). Further, she is now eleven blocks short of moving past Breithaupt (216) for second in blocked shots in program history. In steals, Johns ranks 43rd in steals with an average of 3.4 per game, 1.9 behind national leader Michelle Ciquera of Cortland State. Through the first 12 games of the season, Johns leads the team in steals with 41. As a team, F&M ranks 23rd in three point field-goal percentage at 36.5 percent (65-of-178), just behind national leader Alma which is draining 44.2 percent of its "threes". Franklin & Marshall (5-7, 5-3 Centennial Conference) will return to the court on January 22 at Dickinson College. Game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
