F&M Ranks Among Nation's Best in January 25 NCAA Women's Basketball Statistics

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris), guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) and point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) rank among the national leaders in the latest NCAA Division III women's basketball statistics for games through January 25.

A 2004 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America selection, Abernathy ranks second in the nation in rebounding with 14. 2 boards per game, 1.6 boards behind national leader Jacclyn Rock of Staten Island (15.8 rpg).

In addition, she ranks seventh in blocked shots per game with 3.9, 1.7 off the pace of national leader Karin Schaller of Blufton (5.6 bpg).

A 2004 D3hoops.com preseason All-America selection, she has registered 199 rebounds, 221 points and 55 blocked shots this year as she joined Anne Krumrine '90 (1,811 points, 1,180 rebounds) and Tina Breithaupt '94 (1,293 points, 1,108 rebounds) as only the third women's basketball player in school history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Overall, she is just the fourth basketball player in school history to accomplish the feat as Gus Lovett '53 (1,223 points, 1,161 rebounds) is the only men's player to reach a grand in both categories.

Abernathy now has 1,293 points, 1,010 rebounds and 213 blocked shots as she is now tied with Breithaupt for sixth in school history in scoring, while ranking third in rebounds and blocked shots. She can move into second in blocked shots in F&M history in her next game, as she is four rejections short of surpassing Breithaupt (216). In addition, she is third in blocked shots, fifth in rebounding and 16th in scoring in Centennial Conference history.

In steals, Johns ranks 42nd with an average of 3.5 per game, 1.7 behind national leader Jenna Smith of Trinity-Texas (5.2 spg).

Through the first 14 games of the season, she leads the team with 45 steals.

Tierney ranks among the national leaders in three-point field goal percentage as she is hitting 36.9 percent of her attempts (31-of-84) to rank 46th, 16.4 percent off the pace of national leader Mindy VanDamme of Alma (53.3 percent).

As a team, F&M ranks 24th in three point field-goal percentage at 36.1 percent (74-of-205), just behind national leader Alma which is draining 44.3 percent of its "threes".

Franklin & Marshall (7-7, 7-3 Centennial Conference) will return to action on January 28 at Bryn Mawr College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
