Abernathy, Johns & Tierney Rank Among Nation's Best in February 22 NCAA Women's Hoops Statistics

LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris), point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) and guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) rank among the national leaders in the latest NCAA Division III women's basketball statistics for games through February 22.

A 2004 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America selection, Abernathy ranks second in the nation in rebounding with 13. 9 boards per game, 0.8 boards behind national leader Jacclyn Rock of Staten Island (14.7 rpg).

In addition, she ranks sixth in blocked shots per game with 4.7, 1.5 off the pace of national leader Tameika Crimbley of Stillman (6.2 bpg), and 48th in field goal percentage at 52.4 percent, 15.6 percent behind Alicia Davis of Loras (68.0 percent).

The third women's player in F&M history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, Abernathy now has 1,440 points, 1,104 rebounds and 258 blocked shots as she is sixth in scoring, third in rebounding and second in blocked shots in F&M history.

At guard, Tierney ranks among the nation's best three-point shooters as she ranks 48th in three-point field goal percentage (36.9) and 44th in three-point field goals per game (2.4). Overall, Jennifer Connelly of Fontbonne leads the land in three point field goal percentage (48.2), while Candace Eyerman of Waynesburg tops the nation in three-pointers per game (3.4).

The team leader in steals with 69, Johns ranks 50th in the nation in steals per game with 3.3, 2.4 off the pace of national leader Stephanie Cleary of Ithaca (5.7).

Franklin & Marshall (12-11, 12-6 Centennial Conference) will return to action on February 28 at Johns Hopkins University for the 2004 Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Playoffs. The #4 seeded Diplomats will take to the court at 4:00 p.m. versus the #1 seeded Blue Jays thirty minutes following the conclusion of the 1:30 p.m. matchup of #2 McDaniel and #3 Muhlenberg. Admission is $4 for adults (18 & over), $2.00 for students (13-18 without ID) and free for children 12 & under and for students from participating schools with ID.
