Women's Hoops Ranks Among Nation's Best in February 8 NCAA Statistics

LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris), guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) and point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) rank among the national leaders in the latest NCAA Division III women's basketball statistics for games through February 8.

A 2004 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America selection, Abernathy ranks second in the nation in rebounding with 13. 8 boards per game, 1.2 boards behind national leader Jacclyn Rock of Staten Island (15.0 rpg).

In addition, she ranks seventh in blocked shots per game with 3.9, 1.6 off the pace of national leader Karin Schaller of Blufton (5.5 bpg), and 31st in field goal percentage at 54.4 percent, 13.6 percent behind Alicia Davis of Loras (68.0 percent).

On the year, Abernathy's has 80 blocks as she is now within four of resetting the CC record of 83 established by Ursinus' Lauren Dorsey (1997), Bryn Mawr's Emilie Brondyke (1996) and Snyder (1995). Further, she is within 13 blocks of surpassing the school record as Anne Krumrine swatted 92 shots in 1989.

The third women's player in F&M history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, Abernathy now has 1,389 points, 1,073 rebounds and 238 blocked shots as she is sixth in scoring, third in rebounding and second in blocked shots in F&M history. In addition, she is third in blocked shots, fifth in rebounding and 10th in scoring in Centennial Conference history.

In steals, Johns ranks 47th with an average of 3.3 per game, 1.9 behind national leader Stephanie Cleary of Ithaca (5.1 spg).

Through the first 19 games of the season, she leads the team with 57 steals.

From beyond the arc, Tierney ranks 41st in three point field goals with 2.4 per game, 1.2 behind national leader Candice Eyerman of Waynesburg. In addition, Tierney ranks 48th in three point field goal percentage at 38.3 percent, 9.1 percent behind Jen Hurley of Anna Maria.

On the year, she has made 44-of-118 three-pointers as Tierney ranks second in the team in scoring with 16.3 points per contest.

Franklin & Marshall (10-9, 10-4 Centennial Conference) will return to action on February 14 at home versus Swarthmore College. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m.
