Abernathy Named February 17 ECAC South Region Women's Basketball Player of the Week

LANCASTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School-Paris) has been named the February 17 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) South Region Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The honor marks the third team this season Abernathy has been named the ECAC Player of the Week following accolades on January 12 and January 26.

In a 2-0 week, the 6-0 center was one blocked shot shy of recording a pair of triple-doubles as she scored 35 points (17.5 ppg) on 17-of-32 shooting from the field (53%), grabbed 28 rebounds (14.0 rpg), blocked 19 shots (9.5 bpg), dished out two assists and recorded four steals in victories over Dickinson (62-37 W) and Swarthmore (57-48 W).

Versus Swarthmore, she dropped in 13 points, reeled in 15 rebounds and blocked 10 shots to record the first triple-double of her career.

Historically, her blocked shot performance was record shattering on a number of levels. For Abernathy, who recorded nine blocked shots in a 62-37 rout of Dickinson earlier in the week, her 10 blocks tie the Centennial Conference (Heidi Snyder, McDaniel vs. Washington, 2-9-95) and Franklin & Marshall (Anne Krumrine, vs. Ursinus, 2-4-89) single game record of 10 blocks in a contest and mark the most ever in a two-game span by an F&M player.

Further, her performance raised her single season block total to 90 as she reset the CC single season record of 83 established by Ursinus' Lauren Dorsey (1997), Bryn Mawr's Emilie Brondyke (1996) and Snyder (1995). Further, she is now three blocks shy of surpassing the school record as Krumrine swatted 92 shots in 1989.

The third women's player in F&M history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, Abernathy now has 1,402 points, 1,088 rebounds and 248 blocked shots as she is sixth in scoring, third in rebounding and second in blocked shots in F&M history.

In the latest Centennial Conference statistics, she ranks among the leaders in scoring (16.5 ppg, first), rebounding (13.9 rpg, first), field goal percentage (.542, first), blocked shots (4.50 bpg, first), offensive rebounds (5.20 rpg, first) and defensive rebounds (8.65 rpg, first).

Franklin & Marshall (11-9, 11-4 Centennial Conference) will return to action on February 18 at home in the Mayser Center versus McDaniel College. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
