LANCASTER, PA - Franklin & Marshall College is ranked among the nation's leaders in the final NCAA Division III Women's Basketball statistics for the 2004 season. As a team, the Diplomats concluded the season 133rd in scoring offense (65.3 ppg), 111th in scoring defense (59.1 ppg), 113th in scoring margin (6.2 ppg), 77th in field goal percentage (35.9%), 134th in rebound margin (2.3 rpg), 177th in won-lost percentage (50.0%), 80th in field goal percentage (41.3%), 132nd in free-throw percentage (68.1%), 92nd in three-point field goals (5.0 pg) and 61st in three-point field goal percentage (33.4%). Individually, center Amy Abernathy (Sr., Far Hills, NJ/American School Paris) and guard Courtney Tierney (Sr., Princeton, NJ/Hun School) rank in four categories, while point guard Dana Johns (So., York, PA/Eastern York) ranks in steals. A 2004 Women's Basketball Coaches Association All-America selection, Abernathy ranks second in rebounds (13.8 rpg), fifth in blocked shots (4.6 bpg), 39th in field-goal percentage (52.8%) and 72nd in points per game (16.7 ppg). She recorded a breakout season as she tallied 401 points, 330 rebounds and a school and Centennial Conference single season record 110 blocks in 24 games with eighteen double-doubles. On February 14, she scored 13 points, pulled down 15 rebounds and swatted 10 blocked shots for a triple-double as the Franklin & Marshall College women's basketball team defeated Swarthmore College 57-48 in the Mayser Center. Historically, her blocked shot performance was record shattering on a number of levels. For Abernathy, who recorded nine blocked shots in a 62-37 rout of Dickinson earlier in the week, her 10 blocks tied the Centennial Conference (Heidi Snyder, McDaniel vs. Washington, 2-9-95) and Franklin & Marshall (Anne Krumrine, vs. Ursinus, 2-4-89) single game record of 10 blocks in a contest and mark the most ever in a two-game span by an F&M player. The third women's player in F&M history to record 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career, she concluded her career with 1,473 points, 1,141 rebounds and 268 blocked shots as she finished sixth in scoring, second in rebounding and second in blocked shots in F&M history. At guard, Tierney is 88th in points per game (16.1 ppg), 96th in free-throw percentage (77.5%), 57th in three-point field goal percentage (35.4%) and 49th in three-point field goals per game (2.3 pg). Overall, she finished the year with 386 points, 83 assists and 85 rebounds while making 56-of-158 three-point field goal attempts. Johns finished the year ranked 50th in steals (3.2 spg) as she compiled 71 steals, 213 points and 65 rebounds. Franklin & Marshall concluded the season 12-12 overall and 12-6 in Centennial Conference play to finish fourth in the 11-team conference.
