LANCASTER, PA -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) has announced the selection of Franklin & Marshall College point guard Dana Johns (Sr., York, PA/Eastern York) to the 2006 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America College Division All-District II Women’s Basketball Team.

A second team Academic All-District selection in 2005 and 2006, Johns is among the Centennial Conference statistical leaders as she ranks first in three point field goals (2.24 pg), second in free throw percentage (.838) and minutes played (34.86 pg), fifth in scoring (13.6 ppg), three point field goal percentage (.348) and steals (2.38 spg) and 14th in assists (2.38 apg).

She has netted a record-setting season for the Diplomats as Johns made history connecting on a school record seven three-pointers as part of a 31 point performance as the Franklin & Marshall College women’s basketball team defeated Muhlenberg College 78-71 OT at the Mayser Center on January 26.

Historically, Johns performance tied her career high of 31 points set in a 71-62 victory over Ursinus College on February 5, 2005 and marked the 14th 30-point game in school history. Further, she tied her own mark and Laurie Baker for the 10th most points ever scored in the history of women’s basketball at Franklin & Marshall College as Baker dropped in 31 points in a victory over Ursinus in 1975.

In addition, her seven-of-12 performance from beyond the three-point arc erased the previous school record of six three-pointers set by Dina White-Henry ’94 as part of a 32-point night on November 23, 1993 in an 80-45 win over Haverford College in the Mayser Center.

A 2006 D3hoops.com Preseason All-America selection and the 2005 Centennial Conference Player of the Year, she was also named an Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Southern Women’s Basketball first team all-star, an All-CC first team selection, a D3hoops.com Women’s Basketball All-Mid-Atlantic Region second team honoree and a fifth team All-America selection by DIII News last season.

A two time All-Centennial Conference selection after earning first team honors in 2005 and honorable mention accolades in 2004, she ranks first in three pointes (158) and second in three point percentage (36.83, 158-of-429) in F&M history.

For her career, she has 1,037 points, 295 rebounds, 241 steals and 280 assists as she ranks first in treys, third in steals and assists and 11th in points at Franklin & Marshall in 88 games.

A two-sport athlete at Franklin & Marshall, she is a member of the softball team during the spring and was named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II softball second team last year.

A 2005 All-Centennial Conference softball first team selection, she hit .284 (31-for-109) with 17 runs scored, three doubles, five RBI and 26 stolen bases on 32 attempts. In the latest NCAA rankings, she is 11th in stolen bases per game with an average of 0.79 per contest.

For her career, she is 47-for-61 in stolen bases as she ranks fourth in school history in the category and has a chance to shatter the F&M career record of 66 held by Mimi Young ’96.

Away from the court and the field, she is a member of the College’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee and has participated in the organization’s Haunted Hallways Trick-or-Treating program in which local children trick-or-treat in the College’s Alumni Sports & Fitness Center Halloween night.

A Presidential Scholar and a 2003-06 Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient, Johns will continue her studies at Thomas Jefferson Medical School next year to become a pediatrician.

Overall, Johns was the only Centennial Conference players named to the team as Lindsay DiRomualdo (Catholic University), Eli Cook (Messiah College), Jennifer Andrews (Holy Family University), Beth Jordan (King’s College) and Ashley Reed (Fairmount State University) were named to the first team, while Lisa Gottuso (California University of Pennsylvania), Taryn Mellody (University of Scranton), Jenny Place (Bethany College), Katie Glaws (Indiana University of Pennsylvania) and Katie Lawson (College of Notre Dame) joined Johns on the second team.
