LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshall College women's lacrosse team moved to #5 in the April 10 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Poll. Ranked #10 in the preseason poll, #12 on March 13, #10 on March 20, #8 on March 27 and #9 on April 3 have opened the season 7-2 with wins over #12 Washington & Lee (13-10 W), William Smith College (16-4 W), Connecticut College (14-9 W), Drew University (12-5 W), Haverford College (16-6 W), Swarthmore College (15-7 W), Muhlenberg College (18-6 W) and #20 Ursinus College (15-2 W) and losses to #1 Salisbury University (14-8 L) and #3 Gettysburg (8-7 3OT). The ranking marks the highest the Diplomats have been ranked in the recorded history of the College. Further, Franklin & Marshall is one of five Centennial Conference schools ranked in the poll as Gettysburg (#3), Dickinson College (#16), Ursinus (#20) are also among the top 20 teams and McDaniel College received votes. Last week, midfielder/attack Kelly Cassels (Jr., Downingtown, PA/Great Valley) led the team as she scored three goals and handed out four assists in a 1-1 week as the Diplomats fell to #3 Gettysburg (8-7 3OT) and handled #20 Ursinus (15-2 W). Against Ursinus, she scored twice and handed out a pair of assists to lead the Diplomats to victory. Cassels raised her season totals to 18-11-29 as she now has 98-24-122 in her career, two goals way from surpassing her head coach Ann Phillips '80 (99) for 21st in career goals at the College. One of the most successful Division III women’s lacrosse programs in the nation, Franklin & Marshall has captured six conference titles as the Diplomats have competed in 14 national championship tournaments and recorded a mark of 288-147-3. 2006 IWLCA Division III Women's Lacrosse Poll (April 10) 1.
