BETHLEHEM, PA – Franklin & Marshall College’s Shawn Coughlin (Jr., Berkley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) has earned the #8 seed at heavyweight for the 2006 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships on March 4-5 at Lehigh University’s Stabler Arena. Coughlin enters the championships with a 13-9 record, including three pin falls and a pair of major decisions as he helped lead the Diplomats to an 11-5 record this year. Among the ranked opponents, Coughlin is 0-1 as he lost a 3-1 decision to #6 Mike Sprigg of Army on December 2 in the Mayser Center. Tanner Garrett of Navy is ranked first at heavyweight, while Bode Ogunwole of Harvard, Adam LoPiccolo of American, Paul Weibel of Lehigh, Adam Karaswvicz of East Stroudsburg, Sprigg and Mike D’Amico of Rutgers round out the seven wrestlers in front of Coughlin. He is the third F&M wrester in two years to be ranked entering the EIWA Championships as Mike Parziale was ranked third at 157 lbs. and Matt Veres was ranked fifth at 165 lbs. prior to last year’s championship tournament at the United States Naval Academy. Action gets underway on Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am, with the championship finals slated for a 3:00 start on Sunday.
