BETHLEHEM, PA – Heavyweight Shawn Coughlin (Jr., Berkley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) won his first round match and advanced to the consolation semifinals to lead the Franklin & Marshall College wrestling team at the 2006 Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) Championships hosted by Lehigh University at Stabler Arena. The #8 seed entering the championships, Coughlin knocked off Zdrada Zack of Brown University 10-5 in the opening round before #1 seed Tanner Garrett of Navy picked up a 4-2 win the second round to drop Coughlin into the consolation bracket. In the consolations, he handled #7 seed Mike D’Amico of Rutgers 3-1, but Zachary Hammond rallied for a 6-3 decision in the consolation semifinals to end Coughlin’s season. Overall, the Diplomats finish the championships with 1.5 points as Franklin & Marshall placed 13th in the team scoring through the first two days of competition. Action continues on Sunday at 10:00 am, with the championship finals slated for a 3:00 start.
