LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins midfielder Jessie McKenzie scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game for all the Blue Jays need to defeat Franklin & Marshall 3-1 in Centennial Conference women’s soccer action at Baker Field. The Blue Jays jumped on the scoreboard 5:15 into the game as McKenzie tapped in a pass from Kaitlin Gianetti for a quick 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, she broke loose in the middle and put a shot inside the back post at 9:18 for the game-winning goal and a 2-0 lead. Franklin & Marshall split the lead before halftime as forward Amanda Zambrano (Sr., Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) won a ball in the box and blasted a shot past JHU goalie Jen Goebel to pull the Diplomats to within 2-1 at the 40:46 mark. However, Hopkins' defense prevented the Diplomats from knotting the game before Gianetti finished a feed from Francesca Peretti off a rebound following a shot and save at the 82:10 mark for the 3-1 final. Historically, Zambrano’s goal marked the 40th of her career as she is one goal behind Mary Kilgannon ’87 (41) for fifth in goals at the College. Further, she now has 40-9-89 as she ranks seventh in career points at the College. In goal, Robyn Jones (Jr., Titusville, PA/Pennington) made five saves on eight shots to take the loss, while Goebel recorded one save in the win. Franklin & Marshall (10-5-1, 5-5 Centennial Conference) will now await word on November 7 from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Mid-Atlantic Committee regarding a possible berth to the organization’s postseason tournament.
