Colby Survives Franklin & Marshall 5-4 at Smith & Mt. Holyoke Women's Squash Invitational

NORTHAMPTON, MA – Colby College used victories in the #2-4 and #8-9 matches to fend off a challenge from Franklin & Marshall College and hold on for a 5-4 victory.

The Diplomats won the #1 match as Freddy McNeely (Jr., Newtown Square, PA/Hill School) upped her record to 4-0 at the Smith & Mt. Holyoke Invitational with a 9-7, 9-4, 7-9, 9-2 win over Stacy Petro following victories against Middlebury College, Hamilton College and Wesleyan University earlier in the tournament.

Tracey Sole (Fr., Glendale, Zimbabwe/Peterhouse Girls School) notched a 9-2, 9-1, 9-1 victory over Sophie Newbury at #5, while Lizzy Denenberg (Sr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) held on for a 9-4, 9-6, 6-9, 10-8 win against Catherine Monrad at #6 and Barbara Bee (Jr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) went the distance for a 9-5, 6-9, 9-2, 3-9, 9-3 victory at #7 versus Kate Dziedzic to round out the Diplomats’ victories.

The loss drops Franklin & Marshall (5-8) to 10-3 all-time versus Colby in the series and marked the 493rd women’s squash match in the history of the sport at Franklin & Marshall College.
