Franklin & Marshall Stops Simpson 8-1 in Women's Tennis

ORLANDO, FL – Franklin & Marshall College swept the singles matches and captured the #1 and #2 doubles matches to defeat Simpson College 8-1 in women’s tennis.

In the first ever meeting between the two programs, F&M took the #1 and #2 doubles matches, while the team of Gwen Kingsbury and Martha Davis from Simpson rallied for an 8-5 victory at #3.

In singles, the Diplomats rolled through the matches as #1 Katie Gaskins (Jr., Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) handled Davis 6-1, 6-0, while Lizzy Denenberg (Sr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) stopped Rachel Morrisey 6-4, 6-0 at #2 and Barbara Bee (Jr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) defeated Jess Nims 6-0, 7-5 at #3.

At #4, Dani Barish (Fr., Brooklandville, MD/St. Paul’s School for Girls) fell behind 6-0, but rallied to down Jen Gibson 6-4 in the second set and 10-6 in a 10-point tiebreaker. Jenna Ishkanian (So., Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) and Lauren Hakkinen (Jr., Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks East) closed out the win for the Diplomats with wins at #5 and #6 as F&M improved to 3-0 on the season.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on March 12 versus Stevens Tech in Florida. Match time is set for noon.
