Diplomats Torch Dickinson Red Devils 7-2 in Women's Tennis

CARLISLE, PA – Franklin & Marshall College swept the doubles matches and captured the #1, 2, 4 and 5 singles matches to overpower Dickinson College 7-2 in Centennial Conference women’s tennis action.

Franklin & Marshall (6-1, 2-0 Centennial Conference) improves to 34-1 all-time against Dickinson in women’s tennis as the Red Devils have not defeated the Diplomats since their first meeting in 1974.

The Diplomats jumped out to an early lead in the match as the team swept through doubles, including an 8-4 victory at #1 by the pairing of Katie Gaskins (Jr., Richmond, VA/Mills Godwin) and Barbara Bee (Jr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) over Erica Tobias and Amanda Kaplan.

In singles, Gaskins handled Tobias 6-1, 6-1 at #1, while Elizabeth Denenberg (Sr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) stopped Kaplan 6-1, 6-0 at #2.

The Red Devils broke through with a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 victory at #3 as Hana Thomson defeated Bee in a third set tiebreaker, but Danielle Barish (Fr., Brooklandville, MD/St. Paul’s School for Girls) knocked off Maya Ginsburg 3-6, 7-5, 6-0 at #4 and Jenna Ishkanian (So., Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) downed Melissa Nolan 6-0, 6-3 at #5 to close out the Diplomats’ victories.

Anne Kiely finished Dickinson’s scoring as she notched a 7-5, 6-2 win at #6 over Christina Henkel (So., Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) as the Red Devils fall to 4-3, 1-1 in the Centennial Conference.

Franklin & Marshall (6-1, 2-0 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 1 at Swarthmore College. Match time is set for noon
