Franklin & Marshall Doubles Up Gettysburg 6-3 in Women's Tennis

LANCASTER, PA – Katie Gaskins (Jr., Richmond, VA/Mills Goodwin) won 7-5, 6-3 at #1 singles and combined with Barbara Bee (Jr., Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) to record an 8-5 win at #1 doubles to lead the Franklin & Marshall College women’s tennis team to a 6-3 victory over Gettysburg College in Centennial Conference women’s tennis action.

The win keeps F&M (8-4, 4-3 Centennial Conference) on pace to potentially secure a berth in the Centennial Conference playoff tournament as the Diplomats trail Johns Hopkins University (12-2, 6-2 Centennial Conference) by one match with two matches to play by F&M and one by the Blue Jays.

Johns Hopkins will conclude the regular season in dramatic fashion as the Blue Jays host the Diplomats on April 21 in Baltimore with the winner earning the fourth bid to the playoff tournament on April 29-30 at the #1 seed.

Franklin & Marshall jumped out to an early 2-0 lead against Gettysburg (7-6, 2-6 Centennial Conference) as the team of Gaskins and Bee won at #1 doubles, while the pairing of Elizabeth Denenberg (Sr., Wilmington, DE/Sanford School) and Jenna Ishkanian (So., Wyckoff, NJ/Ramapo) stopped Brooke Ranson and Katie Ferraro 8-2 at #2 doubles.

In singles following Gaskins victory at #1, the Diplomats picked up wins at #2, #4 and #6 as Denenberg, Ishkanian and Christina Henkel (So., Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) recorded victories for the 6-3 final score.

The win improves F&M to 26-10 all-time against the Bullets as F&M has won the last three meetings between the two programs.

Franklin & Marshall (8-4, 4-3 Centennial Conference) will continue the season on April 21 at Johns Hopkins University. Match time is set for 4:00 p.m.
