Lancaster, PA-- Junior Luke Oeding (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) broke his own school and Centennial Conference pole vault record with a first place height of 14' 6" at the Ursinus Invitational. Oeding had set the previous school and CC record of 14-3 1/2" at the Yale Invitational on January 12th, shattering the Centennial Conference mark of Gettysburg College's Scott Ashman who cleared 14' 03" at the Bucknell Invitational. In other track action, senior captain Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) competed in four events, qualifying for the CC Championships on February 22 with a time of 2:38.6 in the 800 meter run. Further, she set a season best in the shot put with a throw of 9.5 meters. In the long jump, Monique Lumsden (Fr., Brooklyn, NY/Nightingale-Bamford) flew 15' 1", placing her fifth in the latest Centennial Conference rankings for the event. On the men's side, freshman Adam Brower (Fr., Havertown, PA/Haverford) jumped a season best 19'8" in the long jump to finish seventh in the meet and fifth in the Conference rankings. In the 3,000 meter run, Brian Doherty (Sr., Upper Darby, PA/Upper Darby), Nate Lawrence (Jr., Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove), Matt Bartolini (Fr., Staten Island, NY/St. Josephs By the Sea) and Jay Philips (So., Shawnee on the Delaware, PA/Gill St. Bernards) qualified for the Conference Championship meet, while Paul Riley (So., Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) qualified in the 1,500 meter run. On February 1, the 4X400 meter relay team of Dan Massey (Sr., Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), Cliff Smith (So., Chester, PA/Chester), Oladipo Ashiru (Sr., Ibadan, Nigeria/Red Cross Nordic) and Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Loomis-Chaffee) placed fourth of sixth team s in their heat at the 2002 Millrose Games at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The squad would finish ahead of Wagner (3:36.50) and Long Island University (3:38.32) in a time of 3:35.38, just off the pace of third place finisher Shore Athletic Club (3:31.30). Montclair State University claimed the event in 3:28.27, edging out Albany State (3:30.13). Franklin & Marshall College will continue the season on February 9th at the F&M Invitational.
