NEW HAVEN, CT - Pole-vaulter Luke Oeding (Jr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) cleared 4.35 meters (14 '03.25") to reset the College and Centennial Conference records as the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats indoor track & field team competed at the 20th Yale University Intercollegiate Track Classic. Oeding, who entered the competition with a career best vault of 4.16 meters (13' 07.75") from the 2001 Centennial Conference Indoor Championships, erased the mark of Gettysburg College's Scott Ashman who cleared 14' 03" at the Bucknell Invitational on November 30, 2001. The leap replaces the previous school record of 14' 03 set by Ed Eisenberg '85 during the 1983 season. In other results, Dan Massey (Sr., Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) placed tenth in the 55-meter dash with a 6.74, following a 6.76 in the preliminaries to advance to the finals. His performance is just 0.21 seconds off a provisional qualifier mark for the 2002 NCAA Division III National Championships at Ohio Northern University on March 8. Senior Keith Hamilton (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) advanced to the finals in the 55-meter hurdles courtesy an 8.31 before finishing 14th in the event with a time of 8.45. Jackie Bentley (Jr., Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan) notched a 20th place finish in the women's 400-meter dash behind a 1:06.01 as the Diplomats competed in their first meet since December 8.
