HAVERFORD, PA - The quartet of Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown), Samantha Pollinger (So., Mahwah. NJ/Northern Highlands), Bryn Benford (Fr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) and Jeannette Finster (So., LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Prep) figured in the shattering of five school records as the Diplomats placed ninth of 10 teams at the 2002 Centennial Conference Women's Indoor Track Championships. The team of Jackie Bentley (Jr., Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan), Pollinger, Daly and Finster shattered school records in the 1600 meter (4:26.52) and 800 meter (1:54.36) relays to lead a charge which saw all four women's relay records fall (4X200, 4X400, 4X800 and Distance Medley Relay). The squad blasted the mark of 1:57.42 set by Lea Margotrigiano, Daly, Finster and Bentley from a year ago in the 4X200 meters. In the 1600 meter relay, the 2002 team would better the mark of 4:28.22 set by the 1997 squad of Tricia Robinson '98, Andrea Session '00, Stephanie Stroud '00 and Sarah Fitzgibbon '00. The DMR would also fall as Finster, Bentley, Pollinger and Cassie McCormick (So., Pittsburgh, PA/Fox Chapel) crossed the line 7th in 13:13.32 to better the previous record of 13:25.43 set in 2000 by the team of Erin Carlson '01, Bentley, Wynne DeCew '02 and Stroud. In the 4X800, Finster, McCormick, Daly and Pollinger placed third in 10:03.09 to reset the record of 10:18.1 held by Terri Smith '88, Nancy Leet '86, Kelly Connell '89 and Amanda Shaw '87 from the 1986 season. Individually, Daly was eighth in the shot-put (32-1 1/2), Finster placed 29th in the 800 meters (2:45.41) and McCormick notched a 12th place performance in the 1,500 meters run. Bentley was 14th in the 200 meters (28.24) and Benford placed 12th in the high jump (4-7 3/4) and 14th in the long jump (14-9 1/4). Benford also reset the school record in the triple jump as she leapt 34-0 to go one foot better than Merideth Sandherr '95 from the 1992 season. Rebekah Egolf (Fr., Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) and Kate Harwood (Jr., Ledyard, CT/Ledyard) placed 16th (11:15.84) and 33rd (12:28.76) in the 3000 meters, while Monique Lumsden (Fr., Brooklyn, NY/Nightingale-Bamford) was 13th in the long jump (15-0). Sara Sussman (Jr., Baltimore, MD/Towson) was 24th in the long jump (12-10) as the Diplomats concluded the Conference season. Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on March 1-2 at Tufts University for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Indoor Track Championships.
