CHESTER, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College's Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Loomis-Chaffee) crossed the finish line in a personal best time of 1:57.77 to place sixth in the 800 meters run at the Widener University Invitational.

The time is the fastest this year by a Franklin & Marshall College middle distance runner, and places Thompson just off the pace of Haverford College's Peter Rook (1:54.72) and Douglas Bennett (1:56.32), two early favorites to medal in the event at the 2002 Centennial Conference Championships on May 3-5.

Off the track, pole-vaulter Luke Oeding (Jr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) placed second with a height of 14' 6", as 2001 NCAA National Championships qualifier Eric Reissek of Richard Stockton claimed the event with a height of 14-6 and fewer attempts.

Nate Lawrence (Jr., Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove) qualified to compete at the Centennial Conference Championships with a time of 37:53.27 in the 10,000 meters, while Bill Ambrose (Fr., East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) placed fourth in the javelin with a distance of 166-10

In women's events, Bekah Egolf (Fr., Pottstown, PA/Owen J Roberts) crossed the finish line in 11:16.63 to place second in the 3,000 meters run. Fellow distance runner Jeanette Finster (So., LaCanada/CA/Flintridge Prep) finished eighth in the 400 meters hurdles in 1:13.59 to mark the first time that the sophomore strider competed in the event.

On the field, Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) threw 32-5.75 to place seventh in the shot put. Bryn Benford (Fr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) was third in the discus (107-3), sixth in the triple jump (31-1.25) and javelin (91-6) to star for the Diplomats.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on April 5-6 at the Duke University Invitational before returning to Lancaster to host the Little Three Championship meet versus Gettysburg and Dickinson College on April 9.
