MILLERSVILLE, PA -- Luke Oeding (Jr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) broke the 19-year old pole-vault record at the College with a height of 15'0" on his first attempt to tie for second at the 2002 Millersville University Metrics. Oeding's performance betters the previous mark of 14' 11.25" held by Ed Eisenberg '85 from the 1983 season. On the track, Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Windsor-Loomis) crossed the line in 22.95, while teammates Dan Massey (Sr., Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley), 23.05, and Cliff Smith (So., Chester, PA/Chester), 23.49, rounded out the Diplomats' finishers in the event. Jeanette Finster (So., LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Prep.) placed ninth in the 400 meters (61.03), while Sam Pollinger (So., Mahwah, NJ/Northern Highlands), 2:29.73, and Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown), 2:30.43, led six F&M women finishers in the 800 meters. Diana Levengood (Jr., Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts), 2:39.84, and Amy Toporowski (Fr., Montgomery, PA/Williston), 2:40.10, qualified for the Centennial Conference Championships at Ursinus College in the 800 meters, bettering the Conference qualifying standard of 2:40.24. Paul Riley (So., Bloomsburg, PA/Bloomsburg) placed fifth in the 3,000 meters steeplechase (10:26.50) and Matt Bartoloni (Fr., Staten Island, NY/St. Joseph's) finished in 4:27.15 in the 1,500 meters as the Diplomats had a strong showing in the distance events. Keith Hamilton (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) crossed the line in 56.37 in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles, and Bill Ambrose (Fr., East Petersburg, PA/Hempfield) threw 167' 5.5" in the javelin to place eighth.
