COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Luke Oeding (Jr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) reset the week old Franklin & Marshall College pole vault record with a height of 15'-02.25" (4.63 meters) to claim the event title at the 2002 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Ursinus College. The mark betters Oeding's height of 15'-00" from the Millersville Metrics on April 27 in which he broke the 19-year old record 14' 11.25" held by Ed Eisenberg '85 from the 1983 season. In addition, the mark established a new Centennial Conference record, bettering the previous record by Oeding of 14'-0" from last year's championships. Senior Dan Massey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) advanced to the finals of the 100 and 200 meters in times of 11.17 and 22.47, respectively. Massey enters the final day of competition seeded number four in the 100 and fifth in the 200 meters. Adam Brower (Fr., Havertown, PA/Haverford) placed 13th in the 100 (11.75), while Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Loomis-Chaffee) earned the eighth seeding in the 200 meters (22.68) and placed second overall in the 400 meters (49.62) to advance to Sunday's finals in both events. Senior Keith Hamilton (Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) finished second in both the 110 and 400 (55.62) meters hurdles to advance to the finals and join Massey and Thompson in having a chance to become dual event champions. In field events, Mark Binkley (Jr., Lemoyne, PA/Cedar Cliff) tied for fourth in the high jump with Gettysburg College's Phil Ferraro as both athletes cleared 5'-08.00". Brower leapt 19'-11.75" to tie with Ben Stopper of Johns Hopkins for fifth and Binkley jumped 19'-02.50" for eighth in the long jump as the Diplomats enter the final day of the Championships in sixth place with 19 points. Jeanette Finster (So., LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Prep) placed seventh in the 800 meters in a time of 2:19.14 to advance to the finals, and Jackie Bentley (Jr., Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan) placed 14th in both the 100 (13.70) and 200 (27.77) meters as the women's team stands ninth with 10 points through the first full day of competition. Bryn Benford (Fr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) scored seven of Franklin & Marshall's points by placing fourth in the high jump with a height of 5'-00.25" for five points and threw 106'-01.00" in the discus to finish seventh. Franklin & Marshal will conclude the Championships beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Ursinus on Sunday, May 5.
