COLLEGEVILLE, PA -- Franklin & Marshall College middle distance runner Jeanette Finster (So., LaCanada, CA/Flintridge Prep) broke the College's 800 meters record and placed fifth as the Diplomats competed at Ursinus College in the final day of the 2002 Centennial Conference Track & Field Championships.

Finster's time of 2:18.60 betters the previous F&M best of 2:18.88 set by Lois Lucente '86 during the 1985 season. She qualified into the finals of the 800 meters courtesy time of 2:19.14 in the preliminaries on Saturday.

Overall, Finster was the top performer on the third and final day of the Championships for the women's team as Franklin & Marshall placed 10th among the Centennial Conference squads.

Bekah Egolf (Fr., Pottstown, PA/Owen J. Roberts) placed 12th in the 5,000 meters (19:23.65), Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) was eighth in the shot put (31-06.75) and Bryn Benford (Fr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) ranked sixth in the javelin (104'-02.00') as F&M totaled 18 points, one shy of ninth place Bryn Mawr College.

In men's results, senior Dan Massey (Lancaster, PA/Conestoga Valley) placed third in the 100 (11.16) and 200 meters (22.48) as Franklin & Marshall finished fifth of the Centennial Conference's nine men's teams with 73.50 points.

In the 200, Massey was followed by teammate Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Loomis-Chaffee) who notched a seventh place finish in 22.87. Thompson returned to the track to race to a 48.90, 0.6 seconds off the F&M school record of 48.3 set by Louis Martuci '79, to place second in the 400 meters.

Keith Hamilton (Sr., Willow Grove, PA/Upper Moreland) equaled Massey placing second in the 110-(15.59) and 400 meters (55.28) hurdles.

The Diplomats also excelled at relays where the 4X100 meters team sprinted to a time of 43.07 to finish third, while the 4X400 meters squad pulled away from Western Maryland (3:22.56) down the stretch to leg out a fifth place finish (3:21.75).

Overall, Dickinson College claimed the women's title with 161 points and Haverford captured the men's crown with 234 points, 97.50 better than runner-up Gettysburg College.

Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on May 11 at Towson University in Maryland for the Last Chance Meet before travelling to Springfield College (MA) for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.
