TOWSON, MD - Franklin & Marshall College pole-vaulter Luke Oeding (Jr., Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township) cleared 14'-6" to place second at the 2002 Towson University Last Chance Meet. The meet, designed as a final qualifier for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and NCAA championships, featured Division I (LaSalle, Rider) and III teams. On the track, Andrew Thompson (Fr., Windsor, CT/Windsor-Loomis) placed 10th in 23.02 in the 200 meters dash. The star of the day for the Diplomats was Chris Williams (Fr., Islamorada, FL/Loomis Chaffee) as he placed 16th in the discus (90' 9") and 13th in shot put (32' 5"). In women's results, running her final intercollegiate race, Susanne Daly (Sr., Dallastown, PA/Dallastown) crossed the line in 1:21.40 in the 400-meter hurdles. In addition, Jackie Bentley (Jr., Mercersburg, PA/James Buchanan) placed ninth in the prelims of the 100-meter dash in 14.17 to miss qualifying for the finals by one position. In the 200, Bentley finished sixth with a time of 28.19. Off the track, Bryn Benford (Fr., Malvern, PA/Great Valley) placed seventh in the discus (108' 3") and 10th in the javelin (92' 1"). Franklin & Marshall will continue the season on May 16-17 at the ECAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts.
